Limang kategorya ang nilalaman ng National Mathletics Competition (NMC) na isang online na kompetisyon sa Matematika para sa mga mag-aaral mula Baitang 3 hanggang Baitang 12 sa Pilipinas: Algebra, Combinatorics, Geometry, Logical Analysis, at Number Theory, na nahati sa iskedyul: Novice Numerators (Baitang 3-4, 8:00-9:00 NU), Intermediate Math Maestros (Baitang 5-6, 9:30-10:30 UM), Advanced Arithmetic Aces (Baitang 7-8, 11:00 UM-12:00 NT), Proficient Problem Solvers (Baitang 9-10, 1:00-2:00 NH), at Masterful Mathematicians (Baitang 11-12, 2:30-3:30 NH). Ayon sa opisyal na talaan ng mga kalahok, umabot sa 47 na estudyante mula sa Pasay City National Science High School ang lumahok. Damasco Nagsimula ang kompetisyon na may mga alituntunin kung saan kinakailangan ng bawat kalahok na gumamit ng laptop o desktop na may kamera at mabilis na koneksyon sa internet, hindi pinapayagan ang paggamit ng calculator, bawal kumuha ng screenshot, at kailangang mag-isa sa silid. Kapag nasunod na ang mga alituntuning ito, maaaring magsimula ang kalahok ng isang oras na pagsusulit sa pamamagitan ng ibinigay na link. Kagawaran ang mga kalahok batay sa kanilang ranggo: ang top 30% ay makakatanggap ng sertipiko at medalya (ginto para sa top 10%, pilak para sa 11%- 20%, at tanso para sa 21%- 30%), habang ang natitirang 70% ay makakakuha ng sertipiko ng achiever, merit, o partisipasyon, ang coach ng nagwagi ay tatanggap din ng sertipiko. Naglalayon ang kompetisyong ito na paunlarin ang kasanayan ng mga mag-aaral sa Matematika, Lohika, at pag-compute, na may malaking kontribusyon sa pagpapalawak ng kanilang kaalaman at kakayahan, na magsisilbing pundasyon para sa mas mataas na antas ng edukasyon at sa kanilang hinaharap na buhay propesyonal.

Sinimulan ni Dr. Mark Anthony F. Familaran, punongguro ng paaralan ang pagpupulong sa pambungad na pananalita na kung saan masayang ibinahagi niya ang karanasan sa resulta ng katatapos lang na Division Science and Technology Fair (DSTF), matapos ang panalangin, makabayang- awit at himno ng Pasay. Ibinahagi naman ni Gng. Arlene I. Arcellana, puno ng Kagawaran ng Agham at Teknolohiya ang resulta ng katatapos lang na DSTF na halos lahat ng kalahok ay nagwagi sa nasabing patimpalak. Naghandog ng pampasiglang bilang si Remmy Parcia ng Baitang 11 Pangkat Gomez. Nakilahok ang mga guro at mga magulang sa pagsagot sa mga katanungan sa napapanahong paksang “ Mental Health Awareness Campaign na tinalakay ni G. Gil C. Ganelo, guidance coordinator ng nasabing paaralan. Nagtapos ang unang bahagi ng pagpupulong sa pangwakas na pananalita ni Gng. Rebecca O. Esguerra, administrative officer II ng paaralan, sa ngalan ni Gng. Jackyline T. Lagaña, puno ng kagawaran ng Ingles. Matapos, ipinaalam sa mga magulang na magtungo na sa kanya-kanyang silid-aralan upang pormal na idaos ang pamamahagi ng mga grado at paggawad ng parangal sa mga mag-aaral na nakakuha ng karangalan.

Villareal, TIII After sixteen years of dedicated service, Mrs. Chiradee Ong-Javiniar, fondly known as Ma’am Chi, has successfully passed the National Qualifying Examination for School Heads (NQESH), cementing her legacy of leadership and unwavering commitment to the students and teachers she serves. Throughout the years, she has shaped the lives of countless students, guiding them on their educational journey at Pasay City National Science High School. Beyond the classroom, Ma’am Chi’s low-key yet impactful leadership has shone through as she mentored teachers, sharing her wealth of experience and expertise. Her colleagues have witnessed her composed and resilient approach during her seven years as the Mathematics Coordinator and six years as the Faculty President. Her leadership has not only empowered teachers to realize their full potential but also provided numerous opportunities for their professional growth. On behalf of the Pasay City National Science High School community, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Chiradee Ong-Javiniar! We are incredibly proud of your success!  

By: Johann Caleb Li Copyedited by Stacie Catallo Photos: Reisha Uy, Gabriel Nicolas, Daniel Quintin, Santine Susa Lady Chiefs tops off their intramurals run with a gold medal in the Volleyball Girls’ finals after two nerve-wracking sets against the reigning champions, the Tamaraws, with both sets reaching a deuce, 2 – 0 (26 – 24, 26 – 24) in the school gymnasium last Friday. As the first set commenced, it was evident how bad the two parties wanted the crown. On one hand, the Chiefs’ sheer hunger to prove themselves to the entire school after falling short to this year’s Tamaraws in the previous Intramurals. On the other hand, the Tamaraws wanted to defend their title as champions, to make a statement that they are a force to be reckoned with. The formidable Tamaraws got off to a hot start, led by Venice Macainan’s service aces and lightning quick reaction times on her receives, fueling the run even further. Despite this, an array of spikes from Chiefs’ star Kate Flores was too much to handle for the Tamaraws, as the Chiefs secured the first set, 26 – 24. Putting the first set on their backs and setting their sights on sending the match into a third set, the desperate Tamaraws got early momentum and had a 16 – 10 advantage, seeming like there was no stopping in sight. Keeping their offense and defense consistent throughout the entire match, the Chiefs managed to turn the tides in their favor, 21-16, with the Tamaraws calling for a timeout, in hopes of shutting down their momentum. Though the Chiefs did manage to run into a speed bump in the end, along with the Tamaraws rallying a small run, it ultimately showed to not be enough, Chiefs delivering the final blow, 26-24.  

By: Xyrel James CanonoyCopyedited by: Stacie Marie CatalloPhotos: The Korean Society, Mara Cabrera “안녕하세요, 마라 입니다!” “Hello, this is Mara!” These were the words of Joelle Mara Cabrera, President of Pasay City National Science High School’s first Special Program for Foreign Language (SPFL) organization, The Korean Society—the newest addition to the PaScian community! On October 9, the community was surprised by a teaser released on Facebook, sparking excitement and curiosity. As of this writing, the organization’s Facebook page has garnered 209 followers and is steadily gaining attraction among students. When asked why establishing this club was important, Cabrera shared, “Being part of the batch that experienced the Korean subject, I was surprised to learn that it had been removed from the Grade 8 curriculum and would only be taught to Grade 7 students. Many students expressed disappointment over its removal, so founding this club will allow everyone, regardless of grade level, to continue learning the Korean language.” Cabrera also emphasized the significance of cultural clubs like The Korean Society, saying, “These clubs allow students to connect with others who share similar interests, helping them feel a sense of belonging.” Looking ahead, Cabrera shared some of the club’s plans: “We, The Korean Society, have lined up various activities, including interactive games, contests, festivals, and events, to make learning fun and engaging for everyone. We will be opening recruitment soon, so join us as we bring the heart of Korea to PaSci!” The club’s adviser is Mrs. Jackyline T. Lagaña, Head of the English Department and Korean language teacher.

Myra Jaime at Matthew VitugMga larawan nina Mervyn Mason Valdez, John Michael Rodolfo, Janiree Sanchez Idinaos ang Intramurals 2024 sa gymnasium ng Pasay City National Science High School nitong ika-8 ng Oktubre, alas-8 ng umaga, na nilahukan ng lahat ng mag-aaral at ng mga guro ng paaralan sa pangunguna ng Kagawaran ng MAPEH sa ilalim ng patnubay ng kanilang subject area coordinator na si G. Jesse R. Sigua upang opisyal na buksan ang palaro. Sinimulan ito ng pagpasok ng mga atleta ng bawat baitang. Sinundan ito ng doxology na pinangunahan ni Remmy Parcia at pagkanta ng pambansang awit. Rumampa rin ang mga muse at escort ng bawat baitang, kung saan hindi lamang estudyante ang mga kinatawan, kundi pati ang mga guro. Nagkaroon din ng kompetisyon ng yell ang bawat antas, na siyang ginamit ng mga mag-aaral upang suportahan ang kanilang mga baitang sa kabuuan ng intramurals. Nagbigay naman ng pambungad na pananalita si Gng. Arlene L. Arcellana, puno ng kagawaran ng Agham at Teknolohiya sa ngalan ni Dr. Mark F. Familaran, punongguro ng PaScie. Sambit niya, “Remember, that today isn’t just about competition— it’s all about unity and celebrating the spirit of friendly competition. Let’s give our best effort, support each other, and most importantly enjoy every moment.” Nagkaroon din ng Oath of Sportsmanship na pinangunahan ni Juliann Angello Ilao, Kinatawan ng Badminton ng Sports Club. Pinasimulan naman ni Emmanuel Nepomuceno, Pangulo ng Sports Club, ang pagsisindi ng sulo. Naganap nang maayos ang pagbubukas ng Intramurals sa tulong ng mga mag-aaral mula sa ika-12 na baitang na sina Xyrel James Canonoy at Carl Niño Carasco, na nagsilbing tagapagpadaloy ng programa. Matagumpay na isinagawa ang pagbubukas sa pangunguna ng Sports Club, SPTA, at ng school staff. Pagkatapos nito, ang paligsahan sa Basketball at Laro ng Lahi tulad ng Tug of War at Tamaang Tao ay opisyal nang nagsimula.

Myra Jaime at Matthew VitugMga larawan nina Mervyn Mason Valdez at John Michael Rodolfo Ipinagdiwang ang school-based teachers’ day sa gymnasium ng Pasay City National Science High School na dinaluhan ng lahat ng mag-aaral at guro ng paaralan nitong umaga ng ika-7 ng Oktubre upang magpakita ng pagpapahalaga sa suporta na bigay ng mga guro sa kanilang mga mag-aaral. Sinimulan ni Gng. Arlene Arcellana ang programa sa pamamagitan ng pambungad na pananalita pagkatapos ng pambansang awit ng Pilipinas, panalangin sa Diyos, at himno ng Pasay, na pinangunahan ng PaSci Chorale. Pagkatapos ay nagpa-raffle ang mga host para sa mga guro ng PaSci na may premyo na iba’t ibang kagamitan at pera bago magsimula ang iba’t ibang laro. Ang unang laro na ginanap ay ang “Gimme Five.” Ang mga guro sa iba’t ibang kagawaran ay naglaban-laban at ibinigay ang lahat ng kanilang pagsisikap at mga sagot sa paligsahan; sa huli, ang Kagawaran ng Filipino, Araling Panlipunan at Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao ang nanalo. Matapos ang matinding labanan sa paligsahan, muling nagpa-raffle ang mga host para sa mga guro ng PaSci bago magsimula ang intermisyon ng The Pascian Glee Club at ang pangalawang paligsahan. Hatid ng banda ng baitang 9 at 12 ang nasabing pagtatanghal. Nagwagi ang Kagawaran ng Filipino sa larong “PaScian Feud” pagkatapos ng pangalawang raffle. Matapos ang matinding labanan sa paligsahan, muling nagpa-raffle ang mga host para sa mga guro bago magsimula ang pangatlong laro. Sinundan ito ng larong “Tumpakners,” kung saan ang mga kasama ng mga manlalarong guro ay ang mga mag-aaral ng paaralan. Nagwagi ang pares nina Gng. Demetria Lappay at Beia Loreez Rafanan sa paligsahang ito. Matapos ang huling laro, sa ngalan ni Dr. Mark Anthony F. Familaran, punongguro ng paaralan, pinangunahan ni Gng. Jackyline T. Lagaña, puno ng Kagawaran ng Ingles, ang pamamahagi ng sertipiko ng pagkilala sa mga guro na nagbahagi ng kanilang kaalaman sa mga mag-aaral sa loob ng maraming taon. Nagkaroon din ng intermisyon ang Music and Entertainment ng sarili nilang komposisyon na awit; habang kumakanta, ang ilang mga miyembro ng SSLG ay namahagi sa mga guro ng mga garapon na may lamang liham, mayroon ding mga rosas, ream ng A4 bond paper at iba pa na mula sa iba’t ibang baitang. Ang Galaw Siyensiya ay nagpasaya rin sa buong paaralan sa pamamagitan ng pagsasayaw.

Lagaňa, Head Teacher III-English Department In a grand event held at the Cuneta Astrodome on Oct. 7, 2024, Pasay City Schools Division Office (SDO) proudly celebrated National Teachers’ Day 2024 with the theme “Pagpapatibay ng mga guro: Daan sa Magandang Kinabukasan” (Empowering Teachers: Path to a Brighter Future). The celebration brought together thousands of educators from across the city, all gathered to honor the essential role that teachers play in shaping the next generation. The program commenced with the singing of the National Anthem and the Pasay Hymn, performed by the talented Pasay City East High School Chorale. This was followed by a heartfelt prayer that set an inspiring tone for the rest of the day’s events. Mr. Quinn Norman O. Arreza, Public Schools District Supervisor Officer-in-Charge Office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent opened the program with his welcome remarks. He said, “Your resilience and innovativeness are crucial factors in ensuring that we will continue to perform our mandate in delivering quality, inclusive, accessible, and liberating education for the learners.” This was followed by a highly motivational message from Dr. Joel T. Torrecampo,  Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Officer-in-Charge, Office of the Schools Division Superintendent who underscored the importance of continuous professional development and the empowerment of teachers. He stressed how these efforts pave the way for a brighter future for the education system in Pasay and beyond. The first raffle draw was led by Mr. Ronel U. Arellano, Administrative Officer IV with  rice cookers awarded to teachers selected from different clusters. Additionally, 60 teachers won 500 pesos each. Throughout the day, government officials expressed their admiration for Pasay’s educators. Pasay City Councilor Hon. Joey Calixto Isidro commended the unwavering dedication of teachers in molding the youth. Hon. Antonio “Tony” G. Calixto, Congressman of Pasay City, also delivered a message, saying, “We all know that the work of a teacher does not end in the classroom. You work beyond regular hours, thinking about the welfare of your students and inspiring not only them but each one of us in the community.” Despite her busy schedule, Pasay City Mayor Hon. Imelda “Emi” G. Calixto-Rubiano also addressed the crowd, reinforcing her administration’s strong commitment to enhancing the local education system and supporting its hardworking teachers during the celebration. Mayor Calixto-Rubiano mentioned that her administration would implement the “Teacher’s EMI (Enrichment, Mastery, and Innovation) Resource Hub” program, which will utilize educational technology and alternative intelligence tools to help teachers create lesson plans in just minutes, compared to the previous process that took days or weeks. She also announced an increase in financial assistance (FA) for teachers from 2,300 pesos to 2,800 pesos, along with an increase in FA for non-teaching personnel. Furthermore, the mayor contributed 200,000 pesos for the cash prizes. To keep the audience entertained, the event featured a series of engaging performances. LGBTQIA+ icons Ate Gay and Regina delighted the audience with their talents, while members of the School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA), the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) Group, and elementary and secondary school principals showcased their talents in various numbers, celebrating their school pride. One of the most anticipated parts of the day was the series of raffle draws, which added excitement to the event. Consolation and major prizes were awarded, spreading joy and appreciation among the educators. Gifts and tokens of appreciation were also distributed to recognize the dedication of the city’s teachers. There were five raffle draws throughout the program, with a variety of prizes such as coffeemakers, electric fans, washing machines, refrigerators, TVs, and e-bikes, along with cash prizes of 500 pesos, 1,000 pesos, 5,000 pesos, and 10,000 pesos, sponsored by several councilors, the vice mayor, and the mayor of Pasay City. The event came to a close with a final intermission performance from school principals, leaving the audience with a sense of pride and joy. Ms. Glenda Tabaquirao and Mr. Mike Artoza, who hosted the event, ensured the program flowed seamlessly, keeping the energy high and the participants engaged.

Balolo, SHS TIII, delved into witnessing a series of inspiring performances touched by musicianship and stylistic versatility as the Cultural Center of the Philippines embarked on the Philharmonic Orchestra 40th Concert Season Fiesta last September 27, 2024, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, Circuit Makati. The affair highlighted the exceptional performing artist of musical pieces under the baton of Maestro Grzegorz Nowak, the renowned Permanent Associate Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO). The harmony of the violins, cellos, maracas, French horns, harps, and other musical instruments, only seen in reading materials, yet with the ensemble led to a meaningful appreciation of its role, sounds, cultural significance, and emotional expression.    Such an overwhelming experience as the audience were led to a profound musical journey and foster appreciation of orchestral music.
