Pasay City National Science High School (PCNSciHS) successfully hosted a division-wide Elementary Math Invitational Quiz Bee for Grade 6 students on January 30, 2026, marking the competition’s return after an eight-year hiatus. The event, held at the school gymnasium, was the first math invitational organized by PCNSciHS since 2018, as academic competitions were suspended during the pandemic.

With the theme “Bridging Excellence for Young Mathematicians,” the quiz bee gathered 19 public and private elementary schools across Pasay City, each represented by two participants. The competition featured three rounds: Easy (2 points), Average (3 points), and Difficult (5 points), challenging students’ mathematical knowledge, speed, and problem-solving skills.

In her opening message, Mrs. Sara Jane T. Delos Santos, Assistant Principal of PCNSciHS, representing School Principal Mr. Mark Anthony F. Familaran, emphasized that the event was more than just solving equations. “Today, it’s not just about finding x and solving for y, but about celebrating your curiosity, triumphs, and challenges,” she said.

Emerging as champion was Anne Dorothy F. Madrazo of Timoteo Paez Elementary School, who garnered a total of 47 points. She was followed by Alexander Valentine E. Garcia of Rivera Village Elementary School with 23 points, and Linux B. Babas of St. Therese of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face School with 20 points.

Madrazo received a plaque, certificate, and PHP 3,000 as the competition’s top winner. In an interview, she shared that she practiced improving her speed in answering math questions and received helpful tips from her mother. “The competition introduced me to some difficult questions, especially the last one in the difficult round. I’ll try to study it more so I can do better next time,” she said. Madrazo also expressed her appreciation for academic contests, noting that mathematics, as a universal subject, helps her in various real-life situations.

Meanwhile, Babas shared a message of encouragement, saying, “Whether we win or lose, we are all special.” His coach, Jianne E. Sambrano, revealed that they learned about the competition only at the last minute, leaving little time for preparation, but still commended Babas’ natural strength in mathematics.

According to Mrs. Abegail Aborde-Villanueva, adviser of The Euclidean Club, the event aimed to promote PCNSciHS while recognizing and nurturing students who excel in mathematics. Overall, the Math Invitational sought to develop students’ critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills, and to further ignite their interest and appreciation for Mathematics through meaningful and engaging activities.

The event concluded with the awarding of plaques and certificates to the winners and participants, marking a successful revival of the Pasay City Math Invitational.
