Mission Accomplished: PaSci’s First Virtual Forum on Voter Educationby Xyrel James Canonoy With the theme “PaScian, Anong Say Mo Ngayong Halalan?: Kabataan: Tinig Ngayong Halalan,” the Supreme Student Government (SSG) concluded the first ever virtual forum on Voter’s Education in collaboration with Kabataan, Tayo ang Pagasa (KTAP). The session, which began at 2:30 p.m., was attended by SSG officers, faculty teachers, Grade 10-12 students of Pasay City National Science High School (PCNSHS), KTAP members, and guest speaker, Ms. Coleen Manibo. The focus of the event was on voter education among PaScians, as well as the impact of voting in local and national elections. The session was hosted by Ms. Maria Jocel Lavilla, Interim Vice President-External of SSG, and Ms. Elyzza Marie Esteban, Interim Secretary of SSG. The actual program began with a video presentation of doxology and the Philippine national anthem. Mr. Mon Clemente, a KTAP member, gave a powerful quote for the opening statement. “Nawa’y matuto’t mamulat ang lahat sa ating webinar. Para sa darating na eleksyon, matuto tayong kumilatis, maging maalam, at maging kritikal dahil sa kanya-kanya nating karapatan sa paghahalal ang siya ring ating responsibilidad para sa kinabukasan ng bayan. Laban, kabataan! Asamin natin ang gobyernong maayos at tunay na naglilingkod sa mamamayan (I wish this webinar will be a learning experience and an eye-opener to all of you. This coming election, let us be keen, sharp, and critical as it is our duty to use our right to vote for the sake of our country’s future. Fight, our youth! Let us dream of a reliable government with officials that truly care for the people),” says the presenter. A guest speaker from the National Union of Students of the Philippines, Ms. Colleen Manibo, also provided a power perspective, emphasizing the role of youth in the elections. “Let us emphasize the lives of the marginalized and criticize our government’s wrongdoings.” The hosts use the game “Jumbled Words” to encourage interaction throughout the session; the words are all related to policies and politics. The discussion resumed with Ms. Manibo’s second topic, Nature of Philippine Elections. Ms. Joanna Luciano of the PCNSHS Faculty Department extended the discussion by making announcements about the approaching SSG Elections. Ending the session, Ms. Katrina Bocabel, Interim President of SSG, gave the closing remarks. Guest speakers’ and participants’ certificates of attendance will be given during this week.
